This was two stories intertwined into one poem. The author jumps back and forth between the scenery of a war stricken city of Baghdad while also offering us an illustration of the scenery of Gramercy Park. An interesting combination of illustrations.
The Author references a dutch phrase that I wondered what is meant, here is a little research:
ReplyDeleteThe area received its name as an anglicization of "Crommessie" which is derived from the Dutch Krom Mesje, meaning "little crooked knife", describing the shape of the swamp, brook and hill on the site.
I liked Baumgartel's comparison of different bodies of water to different knives. Water and knives have two very different consistencies, one being a 'soft' pliable liquid, and the other being a hard solid piece of metal. However, they could both be equally as disastrous.
