Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 220 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.
"from Winehouse," "Why Poetry" and "Gramercy Park"
We're going to spend some time talking and blogging about the long poem "Bicentennial" in class on Wed. night. I would like you to tackle one (or more) of the other poems on your own sometime this week.
Based on the poem "from Winehouse" the first stanza really stood out to me. The author quotes "I'm living on borrowed wine. Last of the light. Only I seem to mind. I sleep to see what i might find". This stanza reminds me about certain parts of life such as you go day by day some people live a hard life, some people borrow money from other people, some have to borrow clothes from people because they struggle. As people go through their day, at night everyone sleeps, everything for the most part for a few hours of the night can be at ease because you are asleep and that's when you can have ease to not worry about what is going on and just take a break. When you wake up your day is starting again and no one knows what they are going to find or expect in their day. Everything comes a surprise and that' how life is taken and is never planned. When you sleep, people have dreams about either what is going on in their life if they are really stressed or if they have something that is really important to them they can't stop thinking about and over night as you sleep you may have thought about e=whatever that is and the next day wake up and find the answer to yourself to find a solution to help you or something that can help change your life. Life is full of surprises as i have mentioned and it's always very interesting.
